Mytesla Documentation
Welcome to Mytesla! This documentation will provide detailed instructions for deploying Mytesla services. You can also refer to this documentation to deploy basic TeslaMate functionality.
You drive your Tesla every day, but do you know how much interesting data is hidden behind it? For example:
- How many kilometers did you drive last month? How much did you spend on electricity?
- Which long trip had the lowest energy consumption?
- When the car was parked, how much electricity was consumed by "phantom drain" (Sentry mode, overheat protection, etc.)?
- How is the long-term health of the battery?
The official app provides limited information, and Mytesla is here to solve this problem!
Simply put, what is Mytesla?
Imagine you hired a 24/7 online, loyal "data butler" for your Tesla. This butler will quietly record every trip, every charge, and every parking session of your vehicle, organizing all the data into stunning, clear charts and maps.
Most importantly, this "butler" is managed by yourself, and all data is stored only in your own location, completely private, and will not be uploaded to any third party.
What can Mytesla help you do?
- Complete trip records: Automatically record the start, end, duration, mileage, energy consumption, and average efficiency of every drive.
- Charging analyst: Detailed analysis of each charging location, duration, energy added, and cost (you can set your own electricity rates), giving you complete control over your charging expenses.
- Energy consumption "detective": Help you find where all the electricity went, whether it's driving or "phantom drain" when parked.
- Battery health tracking: Long-term recording of battery data, so you know the degradation status of your battery.
- Cool visualization: Use maps, dashboards, and various charts to show your driving habits, making you understand your Tesla better than anyone else.
How can you get this "butler"? —— Where is its "home"?
Because this "butler" needs to work 24 hours a day, you need to provide it with a never-off "home" (a small computing device). You have the following options, ranging from budget to premium:
-
Idle computer at home 🖥️
- What it is: That desktop or laptop at home that you don't use much but can still boot up.
- Pros: Zero cost if you happen to have an idle one.
- Cons: Relatively power-hungry, might be noisy, and you need to ensure it stays on 24/7 without sleep.
-
Raspberry Pi 🥧
- What it is: A credit card-sized micro computer, very popular.
- Pros: Super power-efficient (yearly electricity cost is almost negligible), noiseless, compact, is the "standard answer" for deploying Mytesla with excellent cost-effectiveness.
- Cons: Requires spending a couple hundred dollars to purchase and some simple hands-on setup.
-
Home server / NUC / Mini PC
- What it is: Can be understood as an "enhanced version" of Raspberry Pi with stronger performance. Such as Intel NUC or other mini computers.
- Pros: Powerful performance, besides running Mytesla, can do many other things (like home media center, smart home hub, etc.).
- Cons: More expensive than Raspberry Pi.
-
Cloud server ☁️
- What it is: "Rent" a virtual computer from a big company.
- Pros: No need to place any hardware at home, stable and reliable, maintained by big companies.
- Cons: Requires monthly or yearly payment (though entry-level is cheap), for complete beginners, network setup might be slightly complex.
